Water Intake Calculator
"Drink 8 glasses a day." Is that true? Not really. Our calculator tells you exactly how much H2O your specific body needs based on your weight, activity, and climate.
What this calculator does
- Daily Goal: Total ounces/liters per day.
- Activity Adjustment: Extra water for workouts.
- Climate Factor: Extra water for hot/humid days.
The Formula
We use the weight-based formula with activity modifiers.
- Activity: +12 oz for every 30 mins of exercise.
- Climate: +10-20% for hot weather.
Unlike math class, here's what that means
- 100 lbs: 50 oz (Base).
- 200 lbs: 100 oz (Base).
- Workout: +20 oz.
- Hot Day: +10 oz.
Example Calculation
You: 160 lbs. Workout: 1 Hour (Run). Weather: Hot.
- Base: .
- Activity: .
- Total: (~3 Liters).
Did You Know? 💡
- Thirst Lag: By the time you feel thirsty, you are already 1-2% dehydrated. Drink before you are dry.
- Food Water: About 20% of your water intake comes from food (fruits, veggies, soup). Cucumber is 96% water.
- Over-hydration: Drinking too much water (Hyponatremia) can dilute your blood sodium and be fatal. Balance is key.
Expert Insight
The "Pee Test": The easiest way to check hydration? Check the color.
- Clear: Too much water.
- Pale Straw: Perfect.
- Yellow/Apple Juice: Drink water NOW.
- Dark Orange: Go to a doctor.
Why this matters
Dehydration causes headaches, fatigue, and "brain fog." If you feel tired at 2 PM, drink water before you brew more coffee.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does coffee count? Yes. Caffeine is a mild diuretic (makes you pee), but you retain most of the fluid. It counts towards your total, just don't make it 100% of your intake.
What about electrolytes? If you sweat for >1 hour, drink sports drinks or add salt to your water. Plain water won't replace the salt you lost.
Cold vs Warm water? Cold water absorbs slightly faster and burns a few extra calories. Warm water is better for digestion. Drink whatever you like.
